Do not be fooled!!
Yes, this is a board book with an Eternal Sailor Moon action figure, but for the love of cheesecake, DO NOT EVER give this to a little kid!!
In the first place, it's 20 years old as of this Spring, so who knows what the old plastic chemicals would do to a kid, and second? OMG CONTENT!! I can't believe Toei thought this was okay!! If the Starlights in their dominatrix gear isn't enough for you, Usagi being naked at the end will definitely make your eyes pop out.
This book came out during a time in which it was still legal in Japan to sell this level of sex to kids. Sailor Moon Sailor StarS was always aimed at teens and adults, but in 1996, Toei really pushed the boundaries for what they could sell.
Back then in both America and Japan, Simpsons, Dragonball Z/GT and Sailor Moon were just some of many TVPG/TV14 shows that were aimed at adults, but still had a "family" toyline, a trend that has since died. Today's manufacturers know that adults play with and collect action figures as much as kids, and no longer pander incorrect shows to younger audiences.
Today, Toei wouldn't be caught dead selling something like this to tykes again, and the laws dole out fines hefty enough to make a company like Toei second-guess selling Usagi's bewbs to the toddler market. If they ever were to reprint this (highly doubtful) it would be marketed to adults and teens, along with the current run of reprint 90's merchandise and everything Sailor Moon Crystal related.
Still, it's a fun little introduction book, and I just love my ESM action figure!
Is it an art book? A collection? A light novel? Whatever it is, it's awesome, and it's pulling from anime, manga and video games!
